PRAWEEN’S SIGNATURE STARTED COMING THROUGH IN 2015. IT HUMBLY EMERGED AT A BLURRED BOUNDARY BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW. YOU ARE WALKING INTO HIS SOUL SPACE, TAKING SMALL STEPS AT A TIME. ALTHOUGH STANDING AFAR, SOMEHOW, HIS CHAIRS, TABLES AND DISTANCE BETWEEN OBJECTS WHISPER TO YOUR EARS. THE ATMOSPHERE IS FILLED WITH SOFT LIGHT, SIMILAR TO LANNA REGION AFTER THE RAIN.
LAMPANG IS PRAWEEN’S HOME, A CITY LESS THAN 2-HOUR DRIVE FROM CHIANG MAI. IT IS BEST KNOWN FOR CERAMICS AND HANDCRAFTS FROM TRADITIONAL TO CONTEMPORARY. COMING FROM AN ARTISTIC PLACE THAT HOLDS LAYERS OF INTERESTING STORIES, HIS ART GIVES SIMILAR VIBE. ‘ SANCTUARY INSIDE THE SOUL ‘ CONTAINS ALTOGETHER 25 PRINTMAKING LAYERS. THE FIRST FEW LAYERS GIVE BACKGROUND TO THE STORY BEHIND EACH ART PIECE THEY BUILD AMBIENT LIGHT THROUGH DIFFERENT SHADES OF WHITE. THEN CHAIRS AND TABLES ARE SLOWLY IMPRINTED, INTRODUCED AS THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF THE STORY. PRAWEEN CHOOSES OBJECTS JUST AS WHEN HE DECORATES HIS OWN HOME. TO HIM, ALL OBJECTS CONVEY PERSONAL MESSAGE. TO AUDIENCE, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ROOMS FOR INTERPRETATION.
PRAWEEN SEES MAGIC IN EVERYDAY OBJECTS. WHEN HE LOOKS AT SOMETHING CLOSE ENOUGH AND CHOOSES TO MAKE ART, HE VIEWS EACH PIECE AS THOUGH IT IS BEING HELD BY THE AIR IN A WARM SPACE. EACH OBJECT, TO HIM, IS A UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL PLACED INSIDE THE SOUL SANCTUARY, BLENDING IN HARMONIOUSLY.
PRAWEEN’S SMOOTH GRADIENT OF SOFT HUE CAME FROM A TECHNICAL MISTAKE DURING HIS COLLEGE YEAR. FINDING THE EFFECT RATHER INTRIGUING, HE CONTINUED TO DEVELOP IT INTO PRINTMAKING BY USING SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SHADES OF THE SAME COLOUR, PRINTING PATIENTLY LAYER BY LAYER.
HE BELIEVES LESSONS ACTUALLY HELP FORMING ONE’S IDENTITY AND THAT SOMETHING NEW ARE OFTEN DISCOVERED FROM MISTAKES.
